In our April spotlight, we head north to Toledo and catch up with Lake Soccer, one of our newest members!
So, tell us about the league.
Lake Soccer is a proud 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to bringing the joy of soccer to children in the Lake Township area and Lake Local Schools.
By the time Lake students graduate, most have taken part in our program—and we’re honored to play a role in their early athletic journeys. This season, we have over 250 kids on the field, with another 100 expected to join us this fall!
We’re also focused on growing our impact and strengthening our community connections. Our games and practices are held at the local township park, and we’re actively working with township officials on exciting park improvements to benefit all who use the space. Alongside that effort, we’ve been working to upgrade our soccer goals—thanks to the generous support of corporate sponsors.
These partnerships wouldn’t be possible without the help of our amazing parents, who help us build meaningful connections and open doors for our program. We’re incredibly grateful for the community spirit that keeps Lake Soccer moving forward!
What kinds of programs do you offer?
Lake Soccer is proud to offer recreational soccer for children ages 2.5 (U4) through 14 (U14). Our teams participate in the East Suburban Soccer League (ESSL), where rural community clubs come together for a fun and competitive Spring and Fall season. Each team is guaranteed at least eight games per season, with half played right here at our home fields.
We’re also excited to be developing a new opportunity for our U8 (2nd grade) and older players—a summer footwork skills program led by our local high school soccer team. This growing partnership will also include special events like walkouts with the high school teams, attending their games as fans, and helping out as ball girls and boys. We’re looking forward to building this connection and creating more ways for our young players to get inspired and involved.
Additionally, we offer teens (ages 16 and up) the chance to become referees. It’s a great way for them to stay active in the sport, support our younger players, and give back to the program—plus, yes, they do get paid! 😉
What values does your organization have?
At Lake Soccer, our top priority is getting kids out on the field, playing the game they are learning to love, and having fun with friends.
We believe every child deserves the chance to play—regardless of skill level or experience—which is why we guarantee that each player will be on the field for at least half of every game.
Our focus goes beyond the game itself. We’re here to help kids grow—learning how to work together as a team, listen to their coaches, and build confidence along the way. And because we know that sports can be a financial stretch, especially for families with multiple children or those facing tough times, we work hard to keep our program as affordable as possible while also offering scholarships—so that every child has the opportunity to play.
Why is Lake Soccer a member of OSA?
Lake Soccer is proud to be a member of the Ohio Soccer Association (OSA).
We appreciate how simple and straightforward OSA makes it to bring new coaches on board and ensure they’re compliant with Ohio’s safety laws. The peace of mind that comes with OSA’s insurance coverage is also a huge plus—it’s reassuring to know they’ve got our back.
Recently, we’ve started taking advantage of the coaching education programs OSA offers, and the value they bring to our club has been incredible. A special thank you to Jen Fickett—her support and guidance have been absolutely invaluable. We truly don’t know what we’d do without her!
Come and be a part of the Lake Soccer family!
Fall registration will open mid-June! In the meantime check out our website for more information about our club!
