RECAP: Twenty Ohio teams advance from the National League Conference Playoffs

Two weeks of exciting action in the US Youth Soccer National League Conference Playoffs resulted in 20 Ohio teams progressing to the next round of qualification for the National Championships.

All games took place at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, FL.

Under the new format, teams who finish 1-3 in their four-team group advance to National League P.R.O., where they will be placed in groups with the teams who qualify from the Elite 64 Playoffs in January. There are three different pools and a team’s allocation to a pool is dependent on their final position in their Conference Playoffs group.

NL P.R.O. Pool Allocation

  • Champion Pool = 1st Place in Conference Playoff Group
  • Silver Pool = 2nd Place in Conference Playoff Group
  • Wildcard Pool = 3rd Place in Conference Playoff Group

Teams now have a chance to qualify for the National Championships this summer based upon their success at NL P.R.O. In the Champion Pool, the four semifinalists (per age group) will automatically qualify and the losing quarter-finalists will drop into the Wildcard Pool for another shot. In both the Silver and Wildcard Pools, only the champion of the age group will qualify for the National Championships.

Of the 20 teams reaching the next round, half of them will compete in the Champion Pool – including the defending National Champions Columbus United G10 Lions.

We congratulate these teams on reaching the next round!

The US Youth Soccer National League provides the top league competition in USYS and is comprised of four areas of competition: Elite 64, National League Conference, National League P.R.O., and National League Showcase Series. Ohio teams participate in the Great Lakes Conference (GLC), the National League Conference for our area, and are accepted into both GLC and NL P.R.O. based on results earned the season prior. The Ohio Soccer State League serves as a qualifying league for GLC.
