Member Spotlight: Mentor Soccer Club

In this Member Spotlight, we’re taking a closer look at Mentor Soccer Club (MSC).

Mentor Soccer Club is located in Mentor, OH. It was started in 1965 by local residents to educate, teach, and develop children in the sport of soccer. MSC began as a recreational program, then eventually added travel and premier teams. MSC understands families or players have different goals; that’s why it continues to add programs that focus on development.

OSA caught up with MSC Director Jamel White for a few questions.

  • What kinds of program(s) and opportunities do you offer?

We offer camps, technical training, rec, travel, and premier soccer leagues and teams.

  • What values does your organization have?

We want to allow children to develop as soccer players, utilizing positive coaching that emphasizes learning. It is important to us to:

  • Foster an environment where children can learn the positive values of good sportsmanship, respect for others, effective teamwork, hard work, and perseverance
  • Enhance the fitness and self-confidence of each child in the program
  • Foster a life-long love for the game of soccer
  • Why did MSC become a member of OSA?

MSC was a member of Ohio North before the merger that created OSA. Because of our relationship with Ohio North and after meeting with OSA, we felt the direction in which OSA is heading under new leadership coincides with MSC’s visions.
