In our latest Member Spotlight, we’re taking a closer look at Miami Valley Youth Soccer Association (MVYSA).
MVYSA is one of the most historic leagues in Ohio. For more than 40 years, MVYSA has provided boys and girls in a 12-county area (Preble, Montgomery, Greene, Clark, Champaign, Logan, Shelby, Darke, Mercer, Auglaize, Fayette, Miami) the opportunity to advance their soccer skills in a fun and competitive environment. From time to time the league has welcomed participation by teams outside of this area.
MVYSA was incorporated in 1980 as part of the Ohio South Youth Soccer Association, and the organization has remained true to its original goals of sportsmanship, skill development, and enjoyment. More than 200 teams from a wide range of clubs both large and small compete in MVYSA each year.
MVYSA organizes competition for both spring and fall seasons, with divisions organized to allow for equitable competition for every participating team. Flexible eight-game schedules allow for opportunities to participate in tournaments and other competitive events, with awards given to the top two finishers each season in each division.
Coaches and club administrators can count on outstanding support from the MVYSA office centrally located in Dayton, starting by a twice annual general meeting. Administrative assistance is provided throughout the registration and carding process, each division is guided by an association board member, and the league introduced its own referee assigning system in 2022. The mvysa.com website is loaded with useful information and provides clubs and teams the tools needed to manage their participation in the league with messages sent via email and text and copies in each person’s message center. Game postponements are communicated in many ways including Facebook and Twitter postings.
MVYSA also provides a variety of popular member benefits, including a Developmental Academy with 3-4 festivals per season for U6-U8, a college scholarship awards program (3 male and 3 female each $1000 awarded each year), affordable annual summer camps for strikers and goalkeepers, clinics for 7v7 and 9v9 coaches (new 2022), and an awards program that celebrates a coach, volunteer, and administrator of the year.
