ANAHEIM, California (January 17, 2024) – Ohio Soccer Association (OSA) is pleased to announce that Simon Davis and Dr. Tom Turner were awarded the US Youth Soccer (USYS) National Girls Competitive Coach of the Year and the 2024 Dr. Thomas Fleck Award, respectively. Both were presented with their award during the USYS Awards Gala in Anaheim this past weekend.
Davis has been coaching for more than 20 years. In 2023, he helped guide the Columbus United G10 Lions to the treble – an Ohio State Cup Championship, Midwest Regional Championship, and the clubs first-ever national title last summer at the USYS National Championships. As the club director and coach with Columbus United, Davis is an excellent representative for youth soccer and an individual who is dedicated to player development and sportsmanship.
The Dr. Thomas Fleck Award was designed to honor a lifetime of dedication where one has, with integrity, honor, humor, and humility, made extensive and far-reaching contributions to the process by which youth soccer coaches are educated in America. Turner is the 20th recipient of the esteemed award.
Turner has been involved with OSA since its inception, as well as with Ohio North Youth Soccer before that. Turner’s footprint on the sport is not limited to one area, yet spans in its entirety. For more than four decades, Turner held the role of either player, coach, or educator, and while his position may have changed, his devotion to soccer never did.
OSA extends its congratulations to both recipients on their incredible achievements.
