The new non-profit entity will help provide sports organizations across Ohio with risk management services to help them run their organizations more safely and efficiently.
MAINEVILLE, Ohio (January 25, 2024) – Ohio Soccer Association (OSA) today announced the formation of a new non-profit subsidiary called The Ohio Sports Association (TOSA). The new subsidiary will provide youth sports organizations (of all types) across Ohio with various risk management services to help them run more efficiently and safely.
According to Gordon Henderson, CEO of Ohio Soccer Association, “The whole concept of providing risk management services initially came from several of our members from the parks and recreation segment who oversee multiple sports. We are excited to provide any youth sports organization, no matter the sport, with access to the many risk management resources and tools we have developed over the years as we have continued evolving as a state soccer association. It is our way of giving back to youth sports across the State.”
Henderson indicated that the types of risk management services are quite extensive and include education and support for background screenings, mitigating risk, abuse prevention training, and reporting responsibilities, including State of Ohio Lindsay’s Law (cardiac arrest) and concussion trainings, athlete injury and liability insurance, and directors’ and officers’ insurance.
The Ohio Sports Association will launch in March with a dedicated team to support these services to all sports, not just soccer, across the State of Ohio. Henderson states, “We look forward to working with all youth sports organizations throughout the State. Whether you are a school, church, community, or local recreational sports league, every organization can take full advantage of these essential services that further improve youth participants’ experience in an environment free from emotional, physical, and sexual abuse.”
